Hi, I’m Francee.

I am an abstract artist who uses movement and intuition to create emotionally driven paintings. My process has been rooted in improvisation from the beginning. I paint without references or pre-selected palettes, letting the energy of the brushstrokes lead. While my practice starts with this spontaneous energy, it naturally evolves into a deeper conversation with the canvas. From there, I share the work—a balance of instinct and intentionality. Each painting is a sensory experience, meant to be felt more than interpreted. I invite viewers into that space—not to decode, but to connect. There is a certain kind of peace that comes with getting lost in a painting. I try to bring that feeling of being “captured” and being playfully engaged onto the canvas — with the hope that it leaves you with higher spirits than it found you.

Thank you for being here. My practice is a constant exploration, and I’m happy to share the journey with you.

Painting without a Map

This lack of a roadmap is intentional. It’s not because I’m avoiding influence, but because I’m listening. I start with movement and curiosity, letting each gesture lead to the next. The canvas becomes a space where I respond more than I direct.

Sometimes the rhythm is playful. Sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes it’s not so pleasant. But it’s always mine.

Improvisation isn’t about control—it’s about trust. I believe what needs to emerge will find its way through.

Before There was Paint, There was Dance‍ ‍

I chose dance as my major at UW–Madison without ever having set foot in a studio.

I didn’t know the terminology. I didn’t know the technique. But I knew how to move.

What I lacked in formal training, I made up for in instinct. I listened to rhythm, to breath, to the way emotion travels through the body. That same listening guides me now—only the medium has changed. And, of course, technique is learned along the way. I’ve traded the studio floor for the canvas, but the discipline of practice remains the same—constantly refining my tools so my hands can keep up with my heart.

My paintings are choreographed with color. They move, they pause, they leap... lots of leaping.

I don’t often follow the steps. Instead, I absorb the emotional and thoughtful stimulus of the moment—it’s exciting.

And when it overwhelms, I breathe. I pause. Then I leap. Movement. Stillness. That’s the dance.

My gallery page is currently in the works—I look forward to sharing more of these visual conversations with you soon.

I paint what moves through me, and if something stirs in you, too, I’m glad our paths have crossed.
