Hop, Skip, and a Jump

Hop, Skip, and a Jump is all about playful energy—it brings back the feeling of playing hopscotch and outside games with the neighbors. I leaned into some wonderful distressing here, but I also wrestled with that prominent pink circle for a while. I worried I shouldn't use so much pink, but I just couldn't bring myself to get rid of it. Leaving it there was a real turning point, and now I absolutely love using that color. But the true magic for me is the green. It’s actually spread throughout the piece, but one day I noticed that soft green tint in the bottom left catching the sunlight, and it was like seeing it for the very first time. I didn't even remember putting it there! Discovering that gleaming beauty felt completely magical and made me love the painting even more.
