‍ ‍Coupling

Coupling was one of those rare, effortless pieces( I hesitated to s—mostly because I had the good sense to leave it alone! As the painting progressed, I wasn't consciously aware of how the shapes and lines were naturally pairing up. When I finally stepped back and noticed, it was a wonderful surprise that I decided to let it be.

The color palette was another unexpected twist. Initially, the strong presence of blue and red felt a little patriotic, which wasn't what I was aiming for at all, but I've come to enjoy the interaction of the colors. In fact, I ended up leaning into it. That deliberate pop of white at the bottom middle was the very last addition—a little tribute to that patriotic thought, placed like a period at the end of a sentence to say, "and that's it, folks!"
